Bishop Eddie Long Finally Releases A Statement About His Health

By Angela Wyatt Braden

Rumors about Bishop Eddie Long’s presumed health crisis are circling the Internet and creating a media storm for the Atlanta mega church pastor.

Long’s dramatic weight loss has caused individuals to speculate about the bishop’s health.  Multiple sources have leaked that Long has been diagnosed with stage-4 gastro-intestinal cancer.

While Long has not yet denied or confirmed if he has cancer, he insists that his weight loss is a result of “healthy food choices.”  Long announced to his congregation that he is no longer partaking in what he described as “slave food.”

In response to the swarming rumors about his possible health crisis, the bishop released the following statement to Rolling Out Magazine.

“I am recovering from a health challenge that I trust God to deliver me from. It is unrelated to the eating for life diet consisting of mostly raw vegetables that I am continuing, as part of a holistic approach to good health. At this time, my family and I are requesting that you respect our privacy. I truly appreciate your prayers and support for me, my loved ones and my beloved New Birth Church Family.

Although it is unclear how sick Long truly is, his executive assistant has confirmed that Long is not currently in the hospital seeking treatment for his unspecified “health challenge.”

“Bishop Long is not in the hospital. Thank you for your prayers and there will be no other comments,” said April McLaughlin.

Long is the senior pastor of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, GA.  While the church experienced a definite drop in membership a few years ago due to Long being accused of having s*xual liaisons with teenage boys, New Birth continues to be one of the largest churches in the state of Georgia.

Long settled with his accusers in the civil court for an undisclosed amount.
