Bishop T.D. Jakes recently appeared on CNN and commented on the Spring Valley High incident that occurred between a student resource officer and a student in Columbia SC this week that was caught on video and shared on the internet.
“Often when you come on we talk about racial justice on this show and I want you to see this video, and I’m sure you’ve seen it. It’s out of South Carolina. This is a school resource officer and his handling of a young lady there,” Don Lemon began.
“He come into the classroom, and I guess part of his orders is to remove the young woman, and she ends up on the floor and is shoved around and is being pushed. And, now there is an investigation and he is on administrative leave,” Lemon added while showing the footage.
“I don’t know. This is my first time seeing the video. I hadn’t seen it, I hadn’t read up on it or anything like that. But I think that we deserve as parents…” Jake trailed off with the interjection, “Wow… Amazing…” as he saw the officer put the girl onto the ground.
“We deserve as parents an opportunity to investigate and to make sure that our children get the same kind of justice that any other child would get. And I understand the concern. We have seen some of the most disturbing videos trending,” Jakes continued.
“It’s very disturbing to me as a father and a grandfather,” he said, adding that he hoped that all children would be treated fairly.
“There’s no justification for some of his actions,” Richland County Sheriff, Leon Lott, said of the altercation, adding however, “If she had not disrupted the school and disrupted that class, we would not be standing here today. So it started with her and it ended with my officer. What I’m going to deal with is what my deputy did,” he added.
