One of the things that make the heavens happy is the conversion of a sinner to righteousness. And it’s good we’re seeing some Hollywood celebrities declaring that they’re born again. However, what’s been raising eyebrows lately is the fast growing trend in which these celebrities are coming out to claim born again virginity.
What do they mean? Isn’t it that once you’ve broken your virginity it’s a done deal for the rest of your life; just the same way some people suffer the consequences of their sins even after being born again?
Anyhow, the born-again virginity these celebrities are talking about refers to getting a spiritual renewal and vowing to maintain s*xual purity until marriage, while also repenting of one’s s*xual sins.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen many couples making born-again virginity claim, including Ciara and Russell Wilson, Megan Good and Devon Franklin, with the latest to join the mix being singer-cum-actor Tyrese and his new wife Samantha. The singer said that before he got married to his wife, they stayed s*xually pure in spite of temptations.
But don’t forget that it’s the same Tyrese who said a while back during a live show that he wouldn’t marry a woman he’s not known s*xually, equating that to buying a car without a test drive. If indeed he changed his position and decided to remain a “born-again virgin,” we can only say that’s the power of the Word of God.
Like it is in every new trend, you never miss those who don’t get the point. Since the idea of born-again virginity started trending, some women have taken it too far, going as far as undergoing surgery to restore their virginity in a physical sense.
Why is born-again virginity becoming a famous topic?
Many Christian churches put so much pressure on the faithful to stay away from s*xual immorality; so much so that members feel completely condemned in case they get involved in premarital s*x. At the same time, there is also some level of condemnation from brothers and sisters in Christ who, by the grace of God, have been able to remain pure in the Lord. It goes without saying that there are many who fully surrender to God and thus shun all forms of sin, including s*xual sin.
In everything we do, it’s important to remember that God is forgiving, as long as we approach him in contriteness and sincerity (1 John 1:9). It’s a good thing, therefore, to see so many people striving to be restored spiritually and turning away from their sinful ways.
