Evangelical Pastor Says Nassar’s Gymnast Victims Were Responsible For Their Suffering At The Hands Of The Doctor Because Of Their ‘Immodesty’

By Victor Ochieng

Evangelical extremist and staunch anti-LGBTQ crusader Kevin Swanson has chosen to blame the victims of USA Gymnasts doctor Larry Nassar in the doctor’s case in which he was accused of s*xually molesting more than 150 girls. According to Swanson, Nassar was influenced into doing whatever he did to the girls because gymnastics gives room for some level of “immodesty.”

Swanson cited several reasons, including that gymnastics allow for open showers. In fact, Swanson went as far as advising Christian parents not to allow their children to participate in sports because such activities tend to focus more on the body.

“There is an infatuation with the body,” Swanson said, “and, of course, the s*xual aspects of the body as well. Some sports encourage immodesty, revealing large portions of the body and this happens in some sports. These are the risky sports. Here they are, what are the risky sports? Gymnastics. Gymnastics and swimming. These are the sports in which there is an added risk.”

He continued, “Why are all of the gymnasts [at] more of a risk than other sports? Do you really want your daughters involved in a sport that involves a fair amount of immodesty in which red-blooded American male coaches are interacting with these girls? Or, worse yet, where the infatuation of the body eventually effects the lesbian coaches?”

Following his trial, Nassar was sentenced to between 40 and 125 years behind bars.

Some five years ago, it could’ve been easier for anyone out there to dismiss the talks of an evangelical extremist, but after evangelicals went to the ballot and elected a president who bragged about s*xual assault, no one can sit pretty. Think about the case of White House aide Rob Porter, who may not have resigned from his position had it not been that pictures of his domestic abuse actions found their way to the public. Let’s not forget that the White House was given credible allegations against Porter some months back, but instead of acting upon them, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly argued that Porter should be kept in his position because he’s a “man of true integrity.”

With the #MeToo movement and Time’s Up movements gaining momentum and bringing big names down, the misogynists are out fighting hard to save their evil empire from crumbling down. If the world doesn’t continue fighting hard for her vulnerable members, people of Nassar’s ilk will continue to thrive.
