As soon as Jesus Christ was lifted up to the heavens, his followers started looking forward to His second coming. Years went by but the Son of Man didn’t return and some people became weary and changed their course.
During His time on Earth, Jesus’ disciples asked Him about the signs of His second coming, and He gave them some that would foretell His coming in glory.
Matthew 24:6-8 says And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Many people simply look at these signs individually, failing to get the underlying and most significant signs of the second coming of the Messiah. He told them, “So also, when you shall see all these things, you can know that it is near, even at the door” (Matt. 24:33).
The truth of the matter is, there has never been a time when there is a convergent of signs as it is in our time. This is a time when we’re hearing and experiencing the terrible signs of Jesus’ coming all at the same time. There are famines, rumors of war, earthquakes and all.
He also said, “When these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28). Yes, it means when you see them together.
Both Jesus Christ and His prophets told us the exact signs that those looking forward to His coming were to look for, and it was clear that just one of the signs wasn’t enough to tell us that the coming of the Lord is at hand.
Matthew 24:9-12 says “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.”
Looking at things now, we can be sure that the coming of the Lord is at hand.
