Senior Pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, Joel Osteen and Bishop T.D. Jakes, Chief Pastor of the Potter’s House Church in Dallas, Texas, are joining together in a 2013 “MegaFest” of three days of worship, entertainment and sharing, for the family, on August 29-31.

The official website for the event describes it as “One place. 3 Days. Inspiration, Music, Entertainment and Seminars. We’re coming together,” and says it will include the very best of T.D. Jakes Ministries’ shows including Woman Thou Art Loosed, Manpower, MegaKidz and the Mega-Youth Experience.

Jakes and Osteen have made a video promoting the event. In the video, Bishop Jakes asks Pastor Osteen how important it is for families to come together and Osteen replies that it’s so important because there aren’t so many opportunities these days with which to come together as a family. The video can be found on the website of T.D. Jakes Ministries.

Osteen goes on to say, in the promotional video that he is inviting everyone to come along to the event and he is proud to be a part of it. He continues to say that Christians should get together with other believers to inspire their faith and generally have fun together.

In the conclusion of the video, Jakes says that Osteen and he will be “taking over Dallas for Jesus.”

Once every three years the MegaFest is held. The first was held in 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia. It brought in revenue, for the city, in the amount of about $125 million. The aim of the MegaFest is to encourage personal and spiritual growth and transformation within the Christian community.

In 2007, Jakes expressed a desire to bring the MegaFest to Dallas, Texas. He said that because his support base was in Dallas he wanted to bring blessing to the city.

Phillip Jones, chief executive of the Dallas convention bureau, said that 6,000 rooms will be occupied on the peak night of the MegaFest and the event will be one of the largest “citywide” conferences of the year.
