The multi-talented Kathie Lee Gifford is known for openly speaking about her faith, personal life, and career. However, following the death of her husband Frank Gifford and mother Joan Epstein, Lee went into some serious silence, a development that left many of her followers worried.
So what really happened? According to her own confession, the days got longer following the incidences, forcing her to run back to her faith as her only source of solace. Finally, she’s gained enough strength from God that she’s now ready to speak up about the challenges she’s faced as a result of the events that took place in her life over the recent years.
Lee is more than ready to speak up, and that’s why she agreed to sit down with the “I Am Second” crew. During the session, she opened up about her inner thoughts about the challenges of losing loved ones, loneliness, and faith.
During the session, she talked about how she’s faced serious diversity and cruel behavior from within the entertainment industry, way more than most of the Hollywood stars can ever imagine. Lee said a good number of casting agents turned her down, called her all sorts of names and even told her she’d never make it in the competitive and cruel world of entertainment. But those people were all wrong as her career picked up and progressed steadily even as she met the love of her life of 29 years, Frank.
Despite facing numerous personal troubles, the two lovebirds chose to stick together to make their marriage work.
Speaking to the “I Am Second” crew, she said, “On a beautiful Sunday morning, I found my husband passed on to Heaven… He saw Jesus and Jesus took his breath away.”
After the death of her husband, Lee sought support from her mother and children. Unfortunately, two years after the death of Frank, her mother followed.
She was left with a very serious challenge as a result. Her two children weren’t close enough for her to see them regularly and so the thought of having to surge forward alone ate her up. She said, “My biggest struggle at this point of my life is loneliness. I’ve lost my parents, my husband is gone now and my children live far away from me. I still live in the same big house where we made a gazillion million memories. And there are times when I am overwhelmed by loneliness.”
Lee knows that God is always with her, and with God’s love, she’s confident she can overcome everything, and she gets the comfort from knowing that her loved ones are in the heavenly realms.
It’s not easy for anyone to open up about such things. We remain thankful for Lee’s braveness to open up about her personal challenges and how God helped her. This is a great comfort to others going through her kind of situation.
