Reuben Chizor, former pastor of the Hope Restoration Ministries located in Queens, is now serving a 15-year prison term for the rape of two teenage girls in the basement of the church he formerly led.
Chizor, 56, ran Hope Restoration Ministries out of his home on Springfield Boulevard in Queens. According to charges, the Nigerian pastor first started his s*xual assaults with a 14-year-old girl. He took her to his residence, which was in the basement of the church and raped her. This rape occurred on July 27th of 2011 and the very next month – almost to the day – he brought the victim’s then 12-year-old sister to the same basement and s*xually assaulted her, too.
Prosecutors say that the girls were repeatedly and consistently raped and s*xually assaulted over a two-year period. Chizor was convicted last month of first- and second-degree rape, first-degree s*xual abuse and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. “The defendant took advantage of his position as a man of the cloth and the trust placed in him by his followers to satisfy his depraved desires,” Brown said in an official statement.
The girls were previously unaware that they were both being abused but after confiding their terrible ordeals to each other in July of 2015, the police were notified very soon after. “Through manipulation and conniving control, he s*xually abused his two young victims for nearly two years, “Brown said. Chizor’s trial started and ended in June of this year – lasting only a week.
“What the defendant forced his victims to endure was horrendous, and as punishment, he now will be spending a lengthy term behind bars.” Brown said in the statement. Acting Queens Supreme Court Justice James B. Latella, who also presided at the trial, sentenced Chizor to 15 years in prison on July 11th, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.
Efforts at reaching Chizor and his attorney were unsuccessful and a message left at Hope Restoration Ministries was not returned.
