The Penn Speaks: How Does the Word of the Lord Dwell in You?

Hello All Christian News Family!

How does the word of the Lord dwell in you? Richly or poorly? Sadly or happily? Matter of fact speech or in song? Do you keep it to yourself, or do you share it with others. No, seriously. It may not seem like it, but these are legitimate questions. Though I must admit, I never thought about them until reading today’s passage of scripture. This brings us to our key text coming out of Colossians 3:16 (KJV). The Word of the Lord reads:

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord

In this text, Apostle Paul is the speaker, and he is addressing the people of Colosse through a letter. In his correspondence, he reminds his readers — past and present — that meditating and growing in the Word of God should be a joyous experience. It should not be seen as a chore. Allow the Word of the Lord to dwell in your spirit RICHLY, and don’t just keep it to yourself. We are to admonish one another — meaning, advise and caution each other warmly — through song. Perhaps better stated, Paul is telling us that as we sing the Lord’s praises aloud for all to hear, we not only please Jesus but also serve as encouragement to our fellow believers.

Have a blessed day!
