The Penn Speaks: How You Should Be Behaving — “Mortifying Your Members” Part III

Hello All Christian News Family!

In our two previous devotionals from the “Mortifying Your Members” series, we discussed the common problem areas of self-control as described by Apostle Paul. Today, we will take a look at the character traits that he says, according to the inspired Word of God, Christians should be exhibiting. This brings us to our key text coming out of Colossians 3:12 — 15 (KJV). The Word of the Lord reads:

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

In this particular passage of scripture, Apostle Paul is addressing the people of Colosse. Just a few verses prior in this correspondence, he teaches us that we should not let our tempers flair nor should we practice fornication, covetousness, or profanity. He proceeds to share with us through our key text that we should be understanding, merciful, kind, and forgiving towards others. Above all, Paul states, we should operate in love (charity), because it is the bond of perfectness. When we have the love of Christ, all of the other traits will follow.

Have a blessed day!
