By Victor Ochieng

Gospel star Lecresia Campbell has died. The singer is reported to have breathed her last on September 29, 2016. The news of her death was confirmed through a post on her official Facebook Page.

The singer is famous for her sensational singing in the classic hit “Perfect Praise,” a song she did together with Walt Whitman and The Soul Children of Chicago. Campbell also did back-up singing for Vanessa Bell Armstrong and has performed on the same stage with big names like Mary Mary and Donnie McClurking among others.

She played Effie in the stage version of “Dreamgirls,” a film that earned great fame after its cast members Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Holiday earned Oscar for their roles.

Reports reveal that the singer died from Pulmonary Embolism.

A September 7 post on her Facebook Page said, “Thank you all for your prayers! Please be patient with me for not responding to all of the messages, texts and voicemails. Life has been a whirlwind the last few weeks, but thankfully I found a hiding place in the safety of the Lord. Know that I love you all!”

The post came after information about Campbell’s condition was released through the same platform, saying, “Our most heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, fasting and supplication for our dear Lecresia Campbell. Lecresia suffered a stroke. She is improving daily and astounds the medical staff with her cognitive, vocal and motor progress. Lecresia is out of ICU and will begin rehab shortly. Every milestone she has surpassed over the past few weeks is simply a testament to God’s power and fervent prayer.”

In the post, there was an expression of confidence that the devil wouldn’t win regardless.

Campbell was quite dedicated in her faith that even after undergoing surgery, her health challenges only worked to strengthen her spiritual focus. “She is experiencing a health challenge that is simply strengthening the power and magnitude of her worship,” read a post on her Facebook post.

Many of her fans expressed their condolences to her family.

“[Y’all] are in my heart and prayers she’s in the hands of God now. She’s a beautiful angel now,” said Nicole Brown in a Facebook comment.

“God bless this family and give them the strength to go thru this unforeseen time in their lives,” said another user by the name Cookie Cox, adding, “Well done thy servant of God.”

May she rest in peace!
