Christian Woman Says Leggings Cause Men “to think lustful thoughts”

By Michal Ortner

Veronica Partridge, a 25-year-old Christian blogger, posted a short piece entitled “Why I Chose to No Longer Wear Leggings.” Partridge says that it is a personal “conviction weighing heavy” on her heart. She has questioned for months if wearing leggings is appropriate.

She says that the leggings conversation has come up before in the company of men and women. “The conversation was about leggings and how when women wear them, it creates a stronger attraction for a man to look at a woman’s body and may cause them to think lustful thoughts,” wrote Partridge.

What confirmed her decision concerning the tight clothing was a conversation she had with her husband, Dale. She decided to ask his opinion about women and tights. He admitted, “…When I walk into a place and there are women wearing yoga pants everywhere, it’s hard to not look. I don’t, but it’s not easy.”

She came to this conclusion, “If it is difficult for my husband who loves, honors, an respects me to keep his eyes focused ahead, then how much more difficult could it be for a man that may not have the same self-control?”

As a Christian, Partridge’s personal conviction is for women to protect their integrity as well as to consider their effects on the thoughts of single and married men. She says, “Sure, if a man wants to look, they are going to look, but why entice them?”

Also, in an attempt to set the best example for her daughter, Aria, Partridge has decided to up her tights game in modesty. “I want her to know, her value is not in the way her body looks or how she dresses, but in the character and personality God has given her.”

Partridge poses this question to her readers: “Is it possible that the thin, form-fitting yoga pants or leggings could make a married (or single) man look at a woman in a way he should only look at his wife?”

She received plenty of feedback—some congratulating her for her efforts, while others felt that her convictions are a little too radical. One comment to her post read, “One of the (many) unfortunate aspects of modern day Christianity is that women are discouraged from celebrating their sexuality. Can I have an amazing ass and also be close to God? Yes, I can.”

This hasn’t discouraged Partridge. After her post, she wrote that her “conscience is clear.”
