3 Biblical Stories Parents Should Teach Their Children

by Brian Skyz

Proverbs 22:6 says ‘’Train a child in the way he should go and when he grows he will not turn away from it.’’ Children are gifts from God and the best insurance policy we can afford for them is to drive their hearts toward God. Children should learn about God from a tender age all through their lives so that they grow up in favor with God and men as Christ did.

Here are 3 Biblical Stories Parents Should Teach Their Children:

David and Goliath (1 Sam 17)

This is a great story that will teach a child how to trust in God in an unforgettable way. It teaches children that everyone faces some giants in life in the name of challenges. In the natural and in our own power we cannot handle these challenges but when we trust in God to see us through, when we pray earnestly to Him and do according to His will, He helps us kill these dangerous giants. David was a respectful child, strong, handsome and brilliant as all children, and He served the true God. God helped him kill a lion that attacked the sheep he was tending, God used him to kill a giant, Goliath, who mocked his people, and ultimately he became a king.

Joseph (Gen 38)

This is a story of another bright child like the ones we come across daily who was hated by his brothers. His brothers were jealous of him because their father loved him most and God had bestowed in him a special gift of foreseeing through dreams. They eventually sold him as a slave to Egypt where he grew up in a great man’s house as a slave. Joseph faced many challenges but he never disobeyed God. Children should learn to obey God. Joseph grew up to be a great man too, a prime minister.

The prodigal son (Luke 15)

This story teaches a child about God’s love. The prodigal son asked his dad for his share of wealth, changed it into money, then went away to squander the money with sinful people. When he finished the money he suffered a lot, he wore worn out clothes, he was dirty, and did a regrettable job of feeding pigs. He finally opted to go home and ask for forgiveness. His dad was happy to have him back and made a party on his return. In the same way we Christians sin; sin brings us sufferings but when we repent God is willing to forgive and take us in.
