One of the greatest debates today is the topic of divorce. It’s become a very common occurrence in the community and, sadly, it seems to be getting into the church. Some members of the Christian Community seem to be embracing the practice without using the Bible as a reference point. Those found advocating for divorce claim they’re protecting their faith or ministry by separating with a non-believing spouse.
Mr. Rogers, who is a self-proclaimed end-times preacher, recently announced his divorce on Facebook. According to the young man, his wife doesn’t agree with his beliefs. This has brought to light the trend that is gradually cropping up in the Church – divorce.
It’s no doubt that the Bible, the Word of God, doesn’t support divorce except where adultery is involved. Reasons like the ones cited by Rogers don’t meet the requirement of divorce according to the Bible.
Though many Christians desperately look for scriptures that can justify their actions, the Bible remains firmly against divorce. The Holy Book reminds us that, “For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy, and to utter error against the Lord, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.”
The problem with the Church is that many of the religious leaders have deviated from teaching the true gospel. Many are no longer quoting the Bible or even applying it in their day to day lives. They don’t inspire their congregations to read the Holy Book for fear of their evil actions being exposed. This is the foundation on which divorce has found its way into the church.
A reader commented with good advice saying, “It is imperative that we get to read and understand the WORD of God. This helps us to get things right.”
When it comes to DIVORCE, Christians should go back and read MARK 10:5-12, which says, “And Jesus answered and said unto them, for the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. And he said unto them, whosoever shall put away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she commits adultery.”
