More and more churches are embracing gaysm and same-s*x marriage. They all have their explanations. However, for those focused on strictly following Biblical counsel, any explanations given, in favor of or against same-s*x marriage, must originate from the scriptures.
Some church leaders say attraction to someone of the same s*x is a natural thing, meaning it’s not their own mistakes. There are those who claim to have grown up attracted to persons of the same s*x, not having been their personal decision.
What many people overlook is the fact that there is a distinction between homos*xuality and same-s*x attraction, the same way temptation and falling to sin are different.
In the Bible, we read that Jesus was tempted, and indeed He was tempted with sin. Even though He was tempted, He didn’t fall to the desires of the flesh and, therefore, didn’t sin. The temptation of Jesus, just like we experience today, came at His weakest point, a time when He was physically weak and hungry after a 40-day fast.
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin” - Hebrews 4:15.
As Christians, we should follow the example of Jesus Christ. As we live in this world, we experience temptations, but how we handle such temptations is what makes us different from non-believers.
So, what does the Bible say about same-s*x attraction, same-s*x marriage and how we should face them?
Reading from the scriptures, we learn from the book of Genesis 1:27 that God created male and female. In chapter 2, the Bible says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
God created a partner for Adam, and that partner was Eve, a woman. A perfect biblical union is between a man and a woman, something also evident even in our bodily designs. It’s also the natural way through which humans have their offspring.
Anything contrary to that isn’t of God.
Romans 1:27 says, “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”
When Jesus talked about marriage, he referenced the beginning, saying, “‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female.’” - Matthew 19:4.
The book of 1 Corinthians also lists homos*xuals among those who will not inherit the Kingdom of God. And we know that same-s*x marriage is a product of same-s*x romantic relationships.
So, in case you’re feeling attracted to someone of the same s*x, simply turn to God in prayer so He can fix your fleshly desires.
