There is a new read for those seeking to help themselves or others BREAK LOOSE from harmful traps and spiritual prison. The book, “BREAK LOOSE, Find Freedom From Toxic Traps and Spiritual Bondage,” is authored by Bishop George Bloomer, founder and senior pastor of Bethel Family Worship Center, a Durham, North Carolina-based multicultural congregation. Bloomer also hosts “Rejoice in Word,” a national television show that airs on The Word Network.
The main target of the book is persons who’re wrenched by addictive traits, and Bloomer says beforehand that he’s got the requisite qualifications to address the topic, saying, “I personally struggled with drug addiction and other destructive behaviors. Fortunately, I lived to tell about it.”
Bloomer doesn’t take any of the credit for overcoming addiction. He attributes his successful withdrawal from drug addiction to the power of God.
“Praise God, He set me free! Best of all, He gave me powerful keys to share with others, insights I’ve been able to share with countless individuals through years of pastoral ministry.”
He acknowledges that drug addiction, as well as other addictive behaviors, aren’t problems faced only by those outside the church. He says many people in the church also struggle with addiction and thus need help to overcome such life challenges.
“Many people in and out of the church are trapped in addictions that are hard to hide,” he says. “Like a prisoner hauling around a ball and chain, these folks are bound up in drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, sexual perversion and gambling.”
At the same time, Bloomer points out that there are many others struggling with addictions that aren’t openly visible to the public. Only those who open up about such addictions receive help from the church leadership or professional counselors.
“There are more subtle addictions that have people hopelessly bound,” Bloomer said. “Many are trapped by compulsive spending and debt. Others are powerless to manage their eating habits or care for their physical and emotional health.”
Bishop Bloomer has authored several other books, including Wisdom Walk, Authority Abusers, and Witchcraft in the Pews, a national bestseller that hit a million copies in sales.
The book has received applause from several Christian leaders, including World Harvest Church pastor Dr. Rod Parsley, who said, “From the crucible of his own life experience, and from the pages of the word of God, he provides timeless principles that will not only produce freedom, but perpetuate it.”
