Bishop T.D. Jakes Dismisses The Idea Of Meeting Minister Louis Farrakhan … Isn’t That Being Hypocritical?

By Victor Ochieng

In a recent Breakfast Club interview, Charlemagne Tha God asked Bishop T.D. Jakes this question: “Why don’t we see more of spiritual thought leaders like yourself and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, like coming together having conversations maybe teaching people together?”

The Bishop had an answer to that question, pointing out that such meetings weren’t happening because of their differing theological beliefs and principles. “Well theologically we would be on different pages as it relates to the theology of the Nation of Islam versus the nation of the church. Community issues we would be on the same accord because we got the same community issues to fight. I don’t know if we would be better together than we are separate. I think we have different callings, at different stations. Even where we have the same theology. Even where we have the same theology. I am not as hungry for us to get together and have conversations that are interesting. I think I am more hungry to have what I am having right now. Conversations with you. I love having conversations with you. Because you are next and anything, tips, tools, hint watch out the bear is over there. That I can leave you, I love doing.”

What Bishop Jakes was basically saying was that he couldn’t engage with Minister Farrakhan because of their theological differences. But this only shows that Jakes, who claims to be a dynamic preacher, hasn’t risen to a level where he can meet people with differing religious beliefs even if it’s for the betterment of his community.

As the interview continued, Bishop Jakes made another comment that was nothing but hypocritical. The Potter’s House bishop said one of the weaknesses the Black community is facing is their inability to “come together.”

“The reason why I think it is important is because we as a people, can’t lose another fight. We cannot lose another fight. We cannot afford to be fighting with each other, castigating, destroying each other. We have so many enemies coming against us. Like I have not seen since I was a child. This community has to learn how to rally… We have to learn how to rally. We have to get away from destroying each other and being cannibals, eating each other. Because we already got people hunting us and if we don’t use all of our information to come together, everything you know, and everything I know and everything Sean Combs know, and everything LL Cool J knows, and everything President Obama knows. We need everybody. Because if we don’t we are not gonna survive.”

Surely, how can the Bishop say that we need everyone to come together yet be among those who can’t meet fellow Black leaders simply because of they share different faiths?

The insincerity is even pronounced by the fact that of the great talents he’s mentioned, all have at one point or the other met with Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

If Bishop Jakes wants to talk about coming together as a people, he’s got to be among the first to unite the people.
