David E. Taylor: The Apostle, The Prophet, The Accused

By Angela Wills

David E. Taylor is known to some as an apostle and a prophet. He has hailed a great number of teachings in which he’s claimed his relationship with God to be one of superior relevance. However, he has recently become known as the man who stands accused of the misuse of donations contributed to his ministry.

The video of David Taylor being questioned by an attorney for the government leaves many questions unanswered. It is, however, clear that he admits that there are many extremely expensive items such as clothing, cars and mansions required to carry out his media ministry. This is one of the biggest debates among Christians and non-Christians today. What is to be thought of the leader that dresses in Gucci, chauffeured in limousines and living in mega-mansions, while teaching their followers to give their last to God?

The level of support for prophets and apostles is tremendous but there are equal amounts of backlash as well. Why do these so called men of God get to live in the abundance of riches, while their followers are forced to live paycheck to paycheck or eat from the dollar menu while their so called leaders are dining on the dollar of their parishioners? Everyone wants to believe that the person appointed as their leader is called by God but at some point, issues such as the one presented with David E. Taylor brings those beliefs into question.

Churches and mega worship centers all over the country are coming under fire because of the various positions that money hungry leaders have put them in. According to David Taylor, ministers are to be presented in a certain light when standing before the children of God. It seems that the light shines best on designer attire and Mercedes are better accommodating when cut into limousines.

The big picture isn’t always clear and many people have a difference in opinion regarding what is necessary. There are many people who have followed the teachings of ministers like Taylor for so long and they truly believe that the only way to heaven is to give the “Man of God” exactly what he asks for. On the flip side, some are questioning if these riches and finer things in life is truly necessary for what it takes to do God’s work.
