Why Is Donnie McClurkin Rebuking Le’Andre Johnson?

By Michal Ortner

The Black church is tired of reality show preachers like Le’Andre Johnson and the way they flaunt their viewpoints, considering that they do not line up with Christian views that are based on biblical principles. Donnie McClurkin took time to post a rebuke of the reality television industry and those like Johnson, who he says are painting the “body of Christ in a bad light.”

“There’s this franchise of show’s that have been going on for the last couple, several years,” McClurkin says in his opening statements, explaining the phenomenon that is reality television for preachers. “And each ones seems to become a little more desecrated.”

“My question is. Why do we support it? Why do we watch? Why do we allow it? Why do we tune in? Why do we let the body of Christ look so badly. Why isn’t there no outcry? Why aren’t there people saying, ‘This isn’t the preacher I know,’” McClurkin said of the “unfortunate” examples that the men and women on shows like “Preachers of L.A.,” “Preachers of Atlanta,” and “Preachers of Detroit” depict.

“Those aren’t preachers,” he says, though he believes there are a few good ones on the show. According to McClurkin, the bad ones are taking up all of the limelight and getting all of the attention.

“I never did agree with it, but now it’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s become so destructive to the image of ministers,” he adds.

He says that he cannot condemn every preacher that is on the show and believes that some of them are legitimate but that they made an unwise choice by being on the show. Appearing on the program makes them part of something “damning” and “mocking” to the church.

McClurkin also goes on the request that the church stop supporting shows like this one. He believes the Scriptures “totally condemn” this type of display. “Don’t bring a reproach on the body of Christ,” he says.

“I’m not looking for your approval. I’m just saying that it’s wrong,” he says later in the video. “Not only am I not going to watch it, I am going to encourage millions not to watch it.”

“We need to stand together and declare by the thousands that we aren’t going to let this be television as we know it,” he said, jokingly adding that people should just watch Cartoon Network instead.
