The FBI were able to thwart the plans of three men who intended to begin a race war by bombing Jewish Synagogues and Black Churches in the Richmond, VA area. The men involved have been described as “white supremists” who illegally purchased weapons and explosive devices to use in the attacks.
FBI agent, James R. Rudisill compiled a report that stated a Robert C. Doyle and a Ronald Beasley Chaney III approached undercover agents who were posing as illegal weapons salesmen. They attempted to buy explosives and a pistol with a silencer.
Another partner, Charles D. Halderman is accused of making plans to steal from a jeweler in order to provide funding to the other men for their mission. Doyle and Chaney were charged with conspiracy to possess firearms. Halderman was charged with robbery conspiracy.
After investigators searched the home of Doyle’s father, Rolland Doyle, they found guns and bullets but nothing that led them directly to the accused. They did a sweep of the home that lasted for about 3 hours.
“They found what they were looking for. Some things I forgot were here, some things I knew were here. But it was all legal,” said Rolland Doyle.
“It does not fit blowing up these churches and shooting people. It just don’t fit,” he said of the accusations against his son, adding that his son’s religion, the Asatru faith, does not condone violence. He also does not believe his son is a racist.
“It’s not a hate group,” Doyle insisted. “They help people. And the people they help I know it’s geared to white, but they’re thing is you don’t discriminate. You don’t be disrespectful and you don’t hurt others.”
The affidavit that was filed by Rudisill suggests otherwise, stating that Doyle and Chaney “ascribe to a white supremacy extremist version of the Asatru faith.”
Also mentioned in the affidavit was a September meeting that involved plans for “shooting or bombing the occupants of black churches and Jewish synagogues, conducting acts of violence against persons of Jewish faith, and doing harm to a gun store owner in the state of Oklahoma.”
According to the report, all three of the men arrested have multiple felony convictions. They are being held in federal custody without bond until their court date with the grand jury sometime in December.
