Police locked down Copper Pointe Church and Brown Mackie College on Tuesday after a former janitor of Copper Pointe Church was found inside the church in what a current church employee suspected to be a burglary.
The current church employee walked into the building at 7AM to find Robert Crespin inside the building. The current church employee immediately called police, who suspected there may have been other people in the church. When questioned, police say Crespin was not making much sense.
Police locked down Copper Pointe Church and Brown Mackie College — who leases space from the church — as a precautionary method to secure the premises and make sure there weren’t additional suspects inside the church. Officers ran a canine search before clearing the area after approximately three hours. Police say Crespin had a key to the church and that he was supposed to have been at Copper Pointe Monday night, but he was expected to leave at 10 P.M. Crespin has been fired from the cleaning company and arrested for criminal trespassing. He is currently on probation for aggravated attempted burglary.
