Gospel Singer says Pastors Should Stop Pretending to be Perfect

Former pastor of Detroit’s Kingdom Culture Church, Deitrick Vaughn Haddon, gospel singer, songwriter, producer and actor, talked about his latest single “Have Your Way,” in a recent interview with the Christian Post.

Haddon also has a new show entitled “Preachers of LA,” in which the aim of the show is to prove to people that they are wrong when they think that ministers are perfect people.

Have Your Way, the first single from Haddon’s 12th studio album, “Restoring Everything Damaged (R.E.D.), is based on personal experience, according to Haddon.

In the interview, Haddon was asked about the meaning of “Have Your Way.”

Haddon replied that it was a real song, birthed in a real place, in a time when he personally needed direction from the Lord because he was lost. Haddon went on to say that although he had grown up in the church and had been preaching since he was 11 years old, reality hit him and he realized that he needed God’s help.

Haddon continued that he had spent his whole life winning souls for Christ, but no matter how much biblical scripture you know or how anointed you feel, when real life hits you, all you can do is turn to God for help.

Apparently, producer Tub Young sent Haddon the melody to the song and when he started listening to it, the words just began to flow, according to Haddon.

True believers, according to Haddon, go through situations when they don’t even know where God is or why He is allowing these things to happen to them. He added that the words of his single should help them to cope with tough times.

Haddon was asked if he could share what “Preachers of LA” was all about.

Haddon replied that he was one of the producers of the show and that he thought it a good idea to show people what it means to be a minister or pastor and what it takes to live that life.

Haddon stated that it wasn’t easy to devote your life to Christ, and that one of the main problems was that the congregation tends to think that a pastor must be perfect. He added that some pastors have been encouraging their members to put them on a pedestal.

Haddon continued to say that ministers and pastors were human beings, just like everybody else and people needed to see that in the show. Then, Haddon said, they can go to church and realize that it’s not that easy to serve the Lord.

Haddon continued on to answer several questions about his show and stated that he thought music was one of God’s greatest creations. According to Haddon, music can even reach those who are in the grip of drug abuse or strip for a living.

Music can reach anyone, anywhere, Haddon said, you just have to find the right melody and lyrics.
