A high school teacher in Austin, Texas is facing charges after her arrest last week due to accusations of sexual conduct with a student. The 28-year-old teacher is charged with two counts of improper relationship between educator and student.
According to reports, a 17-year-old student informed police that he had sexual relations with a high school math teacher, Haeli Wey. The incidents reportedly occurred 10 times in the months of August and September.
It is alleged that the first time the teacher and student met was during a summer ministry program that is referenced as a Christian training program. It is also reported that the boy is friends with Haeli’s family and she even accompanied the student and his family on a trip to Africa.
The student brought the affair to an end upon discovering that Wey was involved with another 17-year-old student from Westlake High School.
It was after the family trip to Africa that the sexual relationship between Wey and the boy would take place. The acts usually occurred in the teacher’s home or inside her car, according to the teen. He also said that she provided a condom for him to use during their first encounter.
He says that other sexual encounters with the teacher took place in Commons Ford Park and oral sex, as well as the exchange of nude pics was also involved.
The second victim reports the exchange of text messages between himself and Wey that started in September. This would culminate with a hike and a make-out session later in the month.
The original victim says that once Wey discovered that the relationship was being investigated, she asked him “what did you tell them” and “why did you tell them,” according to details of the document.
Wey had been a teacher at Westlake for two years prior to her termination and was booked and released from jail on a bond totaling $150,000.
Texas law specifically declares it a felony for any teacher to be sexually involved with a student, no matter the age of the student. She faces up to 20 years imprisonment if proven guilty.
