Jamal Bryant’s Ex-Wife Talks About Her “nice and nasty” Role in “Housewives” Show

By Michal Ortner

Gizelle Bryant, the former wife of Jamal Bryant, is starring in Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Potomac” after the very public divorce with her high-profile husband. She has kept busy over the years with various projects and now with the show, her blog, and interviews.

Her profile on the Bravo page says that she “maintains her status as a sophisticated woman in the Potomac social scene and with her outspoken, no-nonsense demeanor; she is currently embracing a new chapter as she learns to date again and adjusts to single life.”

The show also features other African American females who have overcome obstacles of race and circumstance and now enjoy the results of their hard work and wealth. The cast includes Ashley Darby, Charrisse Jackson Jordan, Karen Huger, and Katie Rost.

Bryant has been very open about her divorce and the circumstances that led up to her broken marriage. It is no secret that her husband was unfaithful to her on a number of counts and she says that her only choice was to move on.

“I decided I was not going to continue to stay in a relationship in which there was not a major commitment. I’m an old-fashioned girl and if you’re going to commit, commit.”

Since the divorce, Bryant says that she and her former husband have a working relationship that allows them to co-parent and remain friends.

“It was absolutely the worst of times. It was lonely and isolating, however I do have a strong support network of family and friends. I just leaned on them at that time. I’m not one to dwell on anything because I feel like we only have one shot at this thing called life,” she said.

“So I moved on. He moved on. He’s been doing some great things professionally. We were best friends when we got married and he and I are back at that place,” she added.

Those who are familiar with the original “Housewives” series and other reality television programs involving high-profile women are concerned about the content of this new program.

“There is no table-flipping or weave-pulling. However there is a lot of nice nasty things going on,” Bryant explained about the show. “You’ll leave a conversation bloody because they have cut you up in a million pieces from what they’ve told you. We’re more elegant and stylish with what we say to each other. We do it in a very nice, nasty way.”
