Meet The Group That Gives More Than The U.S. Government In Disaster Relief

There is no sweeter news for a Christian than coming to learn that there are people who are defending the true image of Christianity. In the face of disasters, it’s important that the church is found at the forefront of offering assistance to the victims. Despite having a number of pastors and churches painting the Christian faith in the wrong light and making it seem like it teaches selfishness and greed, some faith-based organizations have proven that the church can have a greater positive impact in times of trouble than even the government.

A group of churches has come out strongly to offer great assistance for the Hurricanes Harvey and Irma victims. The faith-based organizations gave billions of dollars in relief aid, to the extent of outpacing government assistance. They came out faster and stronger, offering both financial aid and manpower to help the victims. While we can’t say that FEMA did nothing, the Christians have had an overwhelming presence in terms of helping assistance to the victims.

Speaking to the Todd Starnes show, Rev. Franklin Graham said, “We’re there and we’re going to be there until the need is gone.” The President and CEO of Samaritan’s purse spoke on Tuesday, assuring the evacuees and all people affected by the Hurricanes that they had no plans of stopping the aid; that they would stick around until the whole problem ends and people are settled back to safe places. This is a very powerful step for the body of Christ towards the right direction.

The Daily Caller stated that “faith-based relief groups are responsible for providing nearly 80 percent of the aid delivered thus far to communities with homes devastated by the recent hurricanes.” These entities include non-denominational Christian outfits and denominational based groups like Seventh Day Adventists, Methodist and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief group. The different organizations play specific roles depending on their area of expertise, as regards assisting the disaster victims. This should not be a surprise because this is the true charge of a Christian according to the book of John 15:13, which says, “Greater love has no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends”

That’s exactly what’s expected of all churches and Christians. God and His church should be the only source of help and refuge for all people in times of trouble. This is a duty given to each and every Christian, which is not the same case for the government.
