After 20 years of successful preaching in Florida, have decided to move to Alabama, set up a new church, and hand over the spiritual guidance of others into the capable hands of their children Jill and Lori. They have also landed a deal with TLC for a new six-part reality TV show called “Preaching Alabama” which had its first showing on October 7th at 10 p.m.
The Speegle’s are not what you would usually associate with preachers of God’s word because some of the family appears on the show sporting tattoos and ear piercing. Their show followed immediately after another unusual show titled “19 Kids and Counting,” featuring Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their 19 children.
The Speegle’s preaching style is also not what you would normally expect because they preach a message of love to everyone, no matter what you are or have done in the past. Their aim is to attract the “un-churched” and members who have fallen away by welcoming everyone and anyone to the church in Madison, Alabama which is right in the middle of the Bible Belt.
Jill, the eldest daughter of the Speegle’s, will take over as joint lead pastor of the Movement Church along with her husband Rod. Her younger sister Lori and her husband Seth will be handling the responsibilities of music minister and youth pastor.
Although the Speegle’s ran a successful church in Florida, they are sure to run into problems in their new home since there are numerous congregations in the region, most of which don’t preach the same kind of acceptance of sin.
One of the reasons the family of six (pictured) decided to move from Florida is that if they had stayed there, they would have always been bound to Allen’s way of doing things, according to Lori. She adds that now she will have to learn to do what her sister Jill tells her to do instead of her father.
Pastors Jill and Rod will also have to deal with their 10-year-old daughter Abi as she tries to adjust to her new life in Alabama but they are confident it will not affect their welcoming of all visitors. Jill adds “No matter who you are or what you’ve been through, you are welcome!”
The first episode showed the family receiving the keys to the building of their new church and setting up shop.
