Ben Carson Leads Trump Cabinet In Prayer In Celebration Of The Tax Bill

By Victor Ochieng

On Tuesday, the Trump Administration must have been very happy with the strides they’ve made since taking office.

Ben Carson, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, led the cabinet in a prayer in which he thanked God “for a President and for cabinet members who are courageous, who are willing to face the winds of controversy in order to provide a better future for those who come behind us.”

Carson went further to thank God for “the unity in Congress” that has made it possible for the Republican Party’s tax bill to go through hurdles to the point where it now appears nothing is blocking its passage. This is quite a telling prayer, considering that the division within the party is what led to the shelving of the Trump administration’s resolve to repeal the Obamacare earlier in the year.

“We hope that that unity will spread even beyond party lines so that people recognize that we have a nation that is worth saving and recognize that nations divided against themselves cannot stand,” Carson prayed.

Carson didn’t forget to pray for the country’s leadership, calling for “a spirit of gratitude, compassion and common sense” and “the wisdom to be able to guide this great nation.”

The prayer was attended by members of the press. This was after President Trump invited them to partake in the prayer, reasoning that they “need the prayer more than I do, I think.”

Then he joked saying, “Maybe a good solid prayer and they’ll be honest, Ben, is that possible?”

That was clearly another swipe at the media, coming at an unlikely moment – during a cabinet meeting. That just adds to the list of some of the very strange things the Trump Administration, and particularly the president, has done since taking the oath of office.

The fact that Carson was part of that prayer and prayed in that manner didn’t quite please Trump critics, many of whom argue that most of the president’s actions have only worked to polarize an already divided nation. Others also said the president is doing some things that are obviously wrong, but his party members aren’t ready to call him out.

“Carson is going straight to hell along with the Trump crime family, all the Russian assets in the Republican Party, and the faux traitorous government that the Liar-in-Chief and his minions are setting up right in front of us all,” commented one The Grio user.
