Is Kirk Franklin “dancing with the devil” By Working With Kanye West?

Kanye West says that his newest venture “Waves” is a “dream that can’t happen without God.” He told Real 92.3, “I’m only doing two percent of the work. God is doing the rest of the work.” He describes “Waves” as a “Gospel album, with a whole lot of cursing on it.”

When he brought in Gospel great Kirk Franklin, he told him that “Waves” was definitely gospel. “But it’s still a gospel album. It’s the gospel according to Ye,” he said. And, who is Ye? Kanye is. Ye from Kan-ye and also from Yeezus, the title of his sixth solo album that drew widespread controversy and had Christians up in arms over “blatant blasphemy and sacrilege.”

Does Kanye really view himself as God? It was just a decade ago that  Rolling Stone magazine featured a Kanye cover with the title “The Passion of Kanye West”. He was shown as Jesus “with a crown of thorns, a bloodied face, and cast-off clothing.” Don’t think this is a thing of the past, however. His song “I Am a God.” once again infuriated the Christian community in 2013.

Why did he write the song? Was it that he believes he is a God? Well…yes. Said West after not being allowed into a few of Paris’ fashion week venues, “So the next day I went to the studio with Daft Punk, and I wrote ‘I Am a God’… Cause it’s like, Yo! Nobody can tell me where I can and can’t go, Man, I’m the number-one living and breathing rock star. I am Axl Rose; I am Jim Morrison; I am Jimi Hendrix. You can’t say that you love music and then say that Kanye West can’t come to your show! To even think they could tell me where I could and couldn’t go is just ludicrous. It’s blasphemous.”

According to XXLMag, in addition to Franklin, “Waves” will feature many ‘non-gospel’ stars. “The session included more stars than the Summer Jam. Along with Franklin, Andre 3000, 2 Chainz, The-Dream, Kid Cudi, French Montana, Mike Dean and A$AP Bari…some new editions, including, hip-hop producer Anthony Kilhoffer, Puff Daddy, DJ Dodger Stadium, the duo of Jerome Potter and Samo Sound Boy.”

If you’re expecting a true Gospel album, you’ll likely be disappointed. Let’s just hope Franklin didn’t leave the narrow gate. Consider the Kanye lyrics that he says refers to himself:

I sold my soul to the Devil
I know it’s a crappy deal
least it came with a few toys like a happy meal
