The evangelist James Dobson still refuses to comply with the Obamacare legislation. His staunch opposition to the plan, which requires employers to cover abortifacients - or substances that induce abortion, made headlines once again this week. During an interview, Dobson made it clear that his organization refuses to abide by the abortifacients portion of the birth control mandate, even if it means shutting down his organization. He went on to say,
“We are suing (HHS Secretary) Kathleen Sebelius for forcing or trying to force all of us to give abortifacients medications to our employees,” and I just absolutely refuse to do it. We’ll close down before I’ll do it.”
Another company who sides with Dobson over the abortifacient mandate is the for-profit Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby is a craft store that sells synthetic flowers, yarn, ribbon, baskets and other craft items.
Dobson continued his rant with, “Ours is a Christian non-profit. [The government has] exempted churches from having to do this, but they’ve concluded that other Christian non-profits are not Christian enough.”
Dobson reached out to his supporters last year in a letter which concluded, “The killing of babies is something we absolutely cannot do.”
Is Dobson really serious about shutting down his organization because of Obamacare? Or is there something more than the issue surrounding the abortifacients that has him in such a tizzy? Is he just having a heated moment, or will he in fact close the doors to his organization if he loses this battle? Would he be going against his faith if he decides to go along with the Obamacare mandate?
I’ve heard it all before - and I’m not quite sure if Dobson is willing to close the doors to his organization. Is Dobson just giving “lip service” or is he serious about closing his organization?
