“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24) This bible verse can cause some people to be disappointed and lose faith because they pray and don’t get what they ask for. As a christian, I think it is safe to say most of us want nice things, cars, homes etc.. when we pray based on the verse above we expect to receive what we ask God for. However, we should ask ourselves whether God is our servant or are we God’s servant? Is it about what we ” will ” (purpose or plan) for our lives or what God “wills” for our lives? ” This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to God’s “will”, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14) The bible teaches us to pray according to God’s ” will” not what we want. This is not to say it is wrong to pray for things that you want, but the priority is to pray for things God wants for you. God is the crator, he knows better than you or I what is most beneficial to meet our needs ( spirtiually, physically, emotionally, finicially etc.) “My God will meet your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19) We should seek God’s will, purpose, and plan for our lives because it will always be much better than we can hope or ask for because it will included, his peace, joy, hope, love and eternal presents.
Prayer: Lord God please lead us by the power of your Holy Spirit to seek your kingdom as our first priority and to live according to your will. Give us the faith to understand that you will meet all of our need, spiritually, physcially and emotionally through your son Jesus Christ. Lord forgive us for our lack of faith, seeking our own will for our lives. It is in the powerful name of Jesus Christ and for your name sake that we pray for the faith that we need to trust you. Amen
